HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope all of you had a wonderful, restful winter break. We are ready to dive back into our work!
*Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, January 8th *Science Fair will be March 10th We are back to Social Studies for the first half of the 3rd quarter. We will look at the Civil War (briefly) and reconstruction in the US for the next 4-5 weeks. Monday- Using our old textbook -ch 3. Beginning of the Civil War. Students will discuss the war, its causes, and some important battles. They will write vocabulary words and definitions in their SS notebooks as well as answer review questions after our lesson. VOCAB WORDS/TERMS (10): border states, casualties, draft, emancipation, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, secession, and Anaconda Plan Tuesday- Old text ch 4. The States at War. We will discuss the Anaconda Plan, how the states could use the border states to their advantage. We will discuss the importance of the Battle of Antietam. Wednesday- Continue in ch 4. We will continue the discussion of the Battle of Antietam, as well as Battles of Bull Run, Vicksburg and Gettyburg. Students will begin working on a Battle Map from the Civil War. Thursday- Review of Ch 4 and the vocabulary terms associated with the Civil War Era Friday- Vocabulary Quiz on 10 words/terms listed on Monday's lesson Finish Battle Maps
