Wow, I can't believe this is our last week of school before our holiday and Christmas Vacation. I know the students are as excited as I am with the fun dress-up days this week.
However,just like Santa's elves, we still have lots of work to do. I do want to give you a heads up about the Wednesday Folder this week. The Science Fair Packet will be coming home this week. This packet is like "GOLD" Your child only gets 1 copy Your child must 1. work in it, 2. present it to you for a signature, 3. bring it to school for me to check and sign 5 times before the Science Fair Your child will have to keep up with this packet for 3 months. I will upload a copy of it to the 5th main page in late December. Monday-and Tuesday Standard 5.LS3.2 Provide evidence and analyze data that plants and animals have traits inherited from parents and that variations of these traits exist in a group of similar organisms.
Wedndesay (Wear holiday plaid) and Thursday (Wear PJs) Standard 5-ETS 1.2 Students will generate and compare multiple solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem Standard 5.ETS1.3 Students will plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved Discuss the Polar Express movie. The 1st gift of Christmas was a Bell.
Friday-- Holiday Party 10-12:00 Games, Crafts and Lunch will be provided Have a Very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. **** We encourage all Richland Students to log onto I-Ready Reading and complete at least 30 minutes of reading twice a week during the holiday break. There will be awards for the highest usage during the break. I know my kiddos are wonderful readers. On the 5th Grade list of TOP AR Readers on the bulletin board beside the library, there are 8 students from our class!!! Soooo proud!!!

n science this week we are beginning lessons on Heredity and Traits. We will have a test on Friday, December 13th. Students will have a study guide for the test, it will include content and the 11 vocabulary words from our unit. The students can make flash cards for 5 bonus points on the test.
Our vocab words are: inherit, trait, variation, dominant, recessive, learned trait, environment, instinct, adaptation, survival and reproduction. Monday- Begin investigating traits and heredity. We will read textbook pages 63-64, 66-69. We will watch a Brainpop video "Heredity" and also a Generation Genius video "Variation of Traits". HW: Write the definitions of our vocab words. Tuesday- We will explore Learned traits in humans and animals. We will compare and contrast learned vs inherited traits. Wednesday- We will discuss adaptations that help animals and humans survive in their environment. Short video on "Adaptations and the Environment" We will begin working on our study guide and review vocab words. Thursday- We will complete and go over our study guide from the unit. Friday-- Unit 3 Test HW: We will send home a fun paper about family traits. This will be due on Monday, Dec 16th |
