Lesson 1 Information Processing in Animals Our objective for the week is : Students will develop and use models to describe how sense receptors in animals receive information, which is processed in the brain. Weekly Vocabulary 1. nervous system-- the set of organs that uses information from the senses to control all body systems 2. brain--- organ in the nervous system that sends and receives messages from the other body organs 3. spinal cord-- a thick bundle of nerves inside the spine 4. central nervous system --part of the nervous system made up of the brain and spinal cord 5. peripheral nervous system-- part of the nervous system that is not part of the central nervous system and receives sensory information from cells in the body 6. sensory organ-- organs such as the skin, eyes, ears, nose, and tongue that gather information from outside the body 7. reflex-- an action or movement of the body that happens automatically as a reaction to something 8. . instinct-- an inherited behavior, one that is not learned but is done automatically
