Tuesday: Lesson 11-Multiply a decimal fraction by single-digit whole numbers, relate to a written method through application of the area model and place value understanding. Wednesday: Same as above and including estimation to confirm the placement of the decimal. Thursday: Students will take the MAP math test Friday: Students will take a Mental Math Test Lesson 13- Divide decimals by single-digit whole numbers involving easily identifiable multiples. We will take our first Mid-Module Test on Thursday, August 23. I will send home a study guide for homework on Monday night. The study guide will be due Tuesday, August 21. We will go over the study guide Tuesday in class and correct any problems that have occurred. I STRONGLY recommend the students to review the study guide and even cover up the answers and do the study guide again the night before the test. In fifth grade our study guides are a "mirror" of the types of problems the students will see on the test.
The week at a glance... •Lesson 7- Round a given decimal to any place using place value understanding and the vertical number line. •Study Guide Review/iReady testing •Lesson 8- Round a given decimal to any place using place value understanding and the vertical number line. •Mid-Module Test •Lesson 9- Add decimals using place value strategies and relate those strategies to a written method. Every Friday we will take a mental math test. For the next few weeks we will focus only on multiplication facts. Remember: Meet the Teacher is Tuesday night! This meeting is for parents and guardians only.
Math: Multiplication Mental Math tests will be each Friday. If your child makes a higher grade on this week's mental math test, I will replace last week's test grade with the better grade. Your child can make flash cards and earn five bonus points if they show them to me before the test.
